About me

Education and Training

I am a Mental Health Counselor, licensed by the State of New York to provide psychotherapy and Board Certified by NBCC.  I received a Masters in Science degree from L.I.U. at CW Post and studied Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City and also was trained in EMDR from the EMDR Institute inc.  The reason that I chose to get training in these therapies is because research shows that they have the best results compared to other types of treatment.

Personal Background

I first started working in my twenties as a public school teacher. After a couple of years teaching, I had a panic attack while teaching that completely overwhelmed me and it felt like I was going to die or go insane.  It took me several years of pain and distress before I learned effective ways to over come this illness.  After a number of years of suffering panic attacks, I started to read about anxiety and especially Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT.  By using these techniques, I was finally able to rid myself of panic.  After retiring from teaching, I decided that I wanted to help other people who suffered from anxiety and depression and went back to school for training to start my second career.  From my experiences, I have been able to better understand what people go through and to know that you can get better with the right treatment.
