THOUGHT LOG, is a way of keeping track of upsetting events and feelings you have during the week. In CBT we don’t believe it is the event that disturbs you but rather your belief or thought about the event. In therapy, we can look at what disturbs you and the kinds of thoughts you were having, then we try to challenge those thoughts and come up with a healthier perspective.
PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION, is another way to help you relax. When we feel stress, our Sympathetic Nervous System is turned on as our body gets ready to deal with danger, our heart rate increases, we sweat, our muscles tighten, and more acid goes into the digestive tract so that we are ready for battle or flight. When we use relaxation techniques we stimulate the Para Sympathetic Nervous System which starts to slow the body back to normal after a stressful event.
THOUGHTS THAT CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS are a list of types of thinking that can cause emotional upset. We try to realize these kinds of thoughts when we use them, so we can dispute and change them.
WHAT IS MEDITATION, is an article that gives an overview of meditation and how it can help.
