I am a Mental Health Counselor, licensed by New York State. I received a Masters in Science degree from L.I.U. at CW Post, as well as training in Substance Abuse (CASAC-T license) from the Outreach Training Institute. From the Albert Ellis Institute in NYC which trains psychotherapists in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I received certificates in their Basic, Advanced and Child and Adolescent Training Programs.
I was a teacher for many years with an MA in Secondary Education and I find this experience and many other experiences like raising a family, changing careers, going back to school while working full time, very valuable in working with children, adolescents and adults.
How to choose the right counselor? First, choose a counselor who uses strategies that are evidenced based with good scientific testing results. Second, find someone you can connect with by asking for a consultation so you can meet the counselor.
